WHO WE ARE:
Where There's a Need, There's a LION
In over 200 countries, in hospitals and senior centers, in regions battered by natural disaster, in schools and eyeglass recycling centers, Lions are doing community volunteer work, helping, leading, planning, and supporting. Because we're local, we can serve the unique needs of the communities we live in. And because we're global, we can address challenges that go beyond borders.

OUR HISTORY
AN ACCOUNT OF DALLAS KITCHEN
Dallas Kitchen was born in 1933 and raised in Grosse Pointe and has lived there his whole life. Dallas followed his father in the family business and became a builder building custom homes throughout the Pointes. Dallas later went on to build many commercial and industrial buildings in the Metro Detroit Area.

In the mid 1960's, Dallas Kitchen joined the Grosse Pointe Lions Club as a new member. His uncle was a builder and had been a member of the club. Dallas immediately brought in a few friends into the club as new members too.

Dallas Kitchen had his office on East Warren Avenue in Detroit near the Detroit/Grosse Pointe border. In the 1960's and 70's this was a vibrant area with several popular restaurants and businesses. Dallas owned a multitenant building where he operated his building company and socialized with many of the local businesses. Many of these new members came from this association and most became strong members who participated in club activities and assisting Lions charities and fundraising.

A short and incomplete list below of these past and present members brought in by Dallas Kitchen include many past presidents of the club and Melvin Jones Fellowship award recipients. The recipient of this award becomes a model of exemplary service to his club and the community which it serves.
